Nile Riverboat Restaurant

October24

This morning the sunshine had far from lit up the sky before the grey clouds paved their way in. The dreaded walk confused me as I wandered out with a woolly hat and fur coat in the soaring sunshine. Only to be relieved on my return as I walked out into a gloomy day. Can we predict Britain’s weather during the October season or during any time of the year?

Leave Rain for Nile

Rain covered pavements on an empty street shedding loneliness to my soul in contrast to the hustle and bustle of Khan El Khalili alleyways in Cairo. Memories of Egypt in October flood my mind like the spread of the sunshine warming up the marketplace with Arabic greetings exchanging mid air as I wander past the colourful stalls.

I arrive at my Victorian house unlocking the door and entering another dismal afternoon in with a cup of tea. As I flick on the radio it enlightens not when I’m informed that the recession will last to the end of the year

I recall a dissimilar afternoon after work in Cairo: From Medan Al Arab, Ma’adi to the river Nile. Hailed a taxi and within fifteen minutes I was onto the top deck of a riverboat restaurant. I had a meal and a sheesha (hubbly bubbly) for fifty Egyptian pounds equivalent to five British pounds. Which was exceedingly inexpensive in comparison to the equivalent on the Thames.
