A Short Visit to Morocco

May27

Walking the city best discovers Marrakech. Daytime or nighttimes the place to enjoy is the Djemma Al Fna, as you pass by the line of traditional horse carriages you enter into a square of entertainment.

Small crowds form in circles to enjoy the fortune telling, storytellers, snake charmers, henna tatooists and monkey handlers. Clouds of smoke follow these as you pass the food stalls. The Tagine (stew like dish prepared in a ceramic piece of cookware) being the most popular found in a variety of lamb, chicken, vegetable etc. This leads us onto the pathway of the souks (markets), which are like a maze.

Money Exchange to Dirhams

The best place where to exchange your money for the best rate (1=13dirhams) is ‘hotel Ali’ which is found on the right after the horse carriages.

Then there are the Majorelle gardens owned by the Yves Saint Laurent in Majorelle, a short walk from Bab Doukala. Once there, you are surrounded by aloe vera and cactus plants it’s a tranquil place in the shade where you can relax.

You can go on to visit the palaces; Palace Badi is the remains of a ruined palace. While Palace Bahia remains in tact with absolutely amazing architecture.

Excursion to the Atlas Mountains

Taking an excursion to the Atlas Mountains is an ideal option. Away from the hustle and bustle of the city you can go camel riding up and down hills. And trek the mountains by foot, climbing up the rocks and over bridges made of stick like pieces of wood. You can then climb up to the first waterfall of which there are seven.

Cassablanca and the King Hassan II Masjid

Outside Marrakech, train best makes a visit to Casablanca. A first class ticket cost 140 Dirhams (10.77p) and a second class 90 Dirhams (6.9p). The highlight being the King Hassan II mosque, which is built on the sea. The seafront is a pebble beach nice to relax after admiring the amazing architecture of the mosque.

Unwind in the Hammam Ziani

If after walking the cities you need to unwind the best place to go is a Hammam where you are washed, scrubbed and then massaged on a marble slate. Hammam Ziani in Marrakech near the Bahia palace is a luxury option and cost only 200 dirhams (15.38p).

Going via a package from Travel republic which includes 7 nights in Marrakech hotel with breakfast and return flight by Royal Air Maroc can cost from as little as 235 pounds in February.
